The Challenge

A new 62-bed care home that needed Wi-Fi everywhere.

In summer 2024 we were asked to deliver a complete, enterprise-grade network for Goldsborough Manor, a newly built luxury care home in Strensall, York, developed by Walter Thompson for the Crown Care Group. With 62 high-specification en-suite bedrooms and extensive communal areas, the home needed powerful, reliable Wi-Fi to meet the expectations of residents, staff and UK regulators.

This wasn’t just about internet access. The network had to support digital inclusion for residents, everyday life in the home, and the systems care staff rely on.

The Solution

A UniFi Wi-Fi 6 network, cabled and segmented from day one.

We designed and installed a full UniFi network across the building:

  • Cat6 structured cabling, professionally terminated throughout the property for performance, reliability and flexibility.
  • 20 UniFi Wi-Fi 6 access points for seamless, high-speed wireless coverage in every bedroom and communal space.
  • UniFi Dream Machine as the central controller, firewall and router, with remote visibility of the whole network.
  • Separate networks (VLANs) to keep resident and staff traffic apart and secure.
  • A fully labelled comms cabinet housing all the networking equipment.

The Result

Better connected residents, better supported staff.

For residents

  • Video calls with family and friends, helping to reduce isolation.
  • Streaming and entertainment on smart TVs and tablets, without the need for wires.
  • Support for smart devices such as digital photo frames and voice assistants.
  • Online services for browsing, hobbies and more.

For staff

  • Digital care planning systems for real-time record keeping.
  • Medication management tools that improve safety.
  • Handheld devices that work anywhere in the building.
  • Digital audit trails that support CQC compliance.
  • Remote management and support through the UniFi platform.

The network was designed to grow with the home. Whether it expands its services, adds new technology or increases capacity, the infrastructure is ready to support it.
